Woolwich and the surrounding areas are experiencing a wide variety of regeneration projects. A few recent announcements for Woolwich comprise of:
Tram Link between Woolwich and Greenwich
The Greenwich Waterfront Transit scheme will provide a bus based rapid transit between Woolwich, Thamesmead, North Greenwich and Greenwich. The route from Thamesmead to Woolwich and through Woolwich town centre has been agreed and is anticipated that it will be operational from 2009.
Maybe a John Lewis is Coming to Woolwich
As part of the proposed redevelopment of properties on Powis Street and hare Street it is anticipated that a new department store will come to Woolwich. The developers have not yet named the store. The local planning department anticipate that the planning application will be submitted in September.
Biggest Tesco in South East London Coming to Woolwich
The Love Lane development by St James Investments will create a new Tesco superstore, a new civic centre and 1000 homes. The planning application has recently been submitted. It is anticipated that the Tesco's would open in 2009.
Pedestralising of the High Street
Discussions are underway with the Transport for London about removing buses from Powis Street. As part of the GWT, two sides of General Gordon Square would be pedestrianised.
